This year, we are also entering two new continents: Australia and South America.’
180 COUNTRIES BY 2027
Ateş stated that their goal for 2027 is to operate in a total of 180 countries, adding, ‘Our growth target for this year is in triple digits. Our aim is to grow exponentially and, as always, to make our customers fall in love with us. In 2022, we more than doubled our growth compared to the previous year and entered 11 new countries.’
He further emphasized the importance of sustainability as a shared priority with the EBRD, saying, ‘This year, 35% of our production will consist of sustainable products. Our goal is to reach 90% by 2023 and achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050.’
PARTNERSHIP WITH THE EUROPEAN BANK FOR RECONSTRUCTION AND DEVELOPMENT
The global fashion brand DeFacto, operating in 93 countries across 5 continents, has joined forces with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). The signing ceremony, attended by DeFacto executives and EBRD representatives, was held at the EBRD’s Istanbul Office. The EBRD acquired a minority stake in the company with an investment of 1.1 billion TRY, contributing to the brand’s value with its vision of sustainable development during DeFacto’s globalization efforts.
Ateş noted that in 2022, DeFacto entered 11 new countries, including Turkmenistan, Cameroon, and the Congo, and started selling in markets such as Indonesia, Chile, India, Ireland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Lithuania, and South Africa through marketplace partnerships. Regarding their 2023 expansion plans, Ateş stated, ‘Our country targets for 2023 include opening stores in Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Libya, Algeria, Angola, Rwanda, and Mauritius. In South America, we have formed significant partnerships across the continent. Starting with Mexico, we have expanded our journey to Argentina, Brazil, and Chile. By mid-2023, we aim to enhance our maturity level in South America, with Colombia and Peru as our new focus countries this year. In the first quarter of 2023, we will also enter a brand-new continent. We are launching our Australia operations through the continent’s leading online sales channels. Since the day we were founded, we have worked with the vision of creating a global brand that our country can be proud of. With this vision, we will bring the DeFacto brand to 100 countries and open 100 new stores on the 100th anniversary of our Republic.’
‘WE INVEST IN GENDER EQUALITY WITH THE “HAPPY WOMEN MOVEMENT”‘
Ateş highlighted that DeFacto is a member of the Better Cotton Initiative and continued, ‘Approximately 60% of our employees are women, and since 2015, we have been investing in gender equality through our “Happy Women Movement.” Within this framework, we are also signatories of the UN Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs). With our project “Dreams from Fabric,” which contributes to gender equality, increases women’s employment, and plays an active role in realizing women’s dreams, we fulfill our responsibilities in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.”
