DeFacto Publishes Its First Integrated Report
DeFacto transformed its 10th annual Sustainability Report into an Integrated Report for the first time this year, marking a milestone in its sustainability journey. Guided by the principles of “inspired by nature,” “growing with people,” and “creating economic and innovative value,” the global fashion brand continues to lead the ready-to-wear sector with its transparent and impactful sustainability efforts.
Published under the title “2023 Integrated Report,” the document includes striking data about the industry and the brand itself. DeFacto aims to raise awareness about integrated reporting and thinking, enhance organizational capacity, and share best practices on a national level. To further its commitment, the company has joined the Integrated Reporting Association, which supports these objectives.
DeFacto CEO İhsan Ateş shared insights about the report, emphasizing, “While the fashion and textile industry contributes significantly to the global economy, it disproportionately uses natural resources and poses sustainability challenges. As one of the leaders in Turkey’s fashion and textile sector, we take responsibility for driving this transformation and take the necessary steps.”
1 in 5 Ready-to-Wear Products is Sustainably Produced
Highlighting the importance of building a sustainable future, Ateş stated, “Sustainable fashion is a critical priority for taking our industry and company into the future. We aim to offer the best combination of fashion, quality, price, and sustainability while leveraging technology and digitalization to achieve these goals.
We use innovative, sustainable materials that reduce environmental impact, require fewer resources, and decrease dependency on traditional textiles. As a member of the Better Cotton Initiative, 16% of our cotton consumption last year was sourced as Better Cotton. Currently, 1 in 5 of our ready-to-wear products is sustainably produced. By 2030, one of our key goals is to make 90% of our collections sustainable.”
Innovative Sustainable Collections: Olive Leather
Ateş highlighted the brand’s Vegan-Sustainable Olive Leather Collection as a standout innovation:
“This innovation creates circularity by repurposing waste from the olive industry. Vegan olive leather reduces carbon emissions by 94% compared to traditional leather.”
Under the DeFacto LIFE brand, the company offers green-labeled products made from recycled or sustainably sourced materials. Ateş elaborated:
“For example, we repurpose industrial waste from olives, a beloved fruit, to create a new raw material for our Sustainable Olive Leather Collection. This showcases our commitment to being ‘inspired by nature.’”
Expanding the Reach of Sustainable Collections
DeFacto continues to increase the number of its sustainable and innovative product lines. Ateş concluded:
“Our focus on sustainable collections not only aligns with our brand values but also positions us as a leader in transforming the industry toward a greener and more responsible future.”
